A fixture on many American ranches and farms, the Australian Shepherd has become a very popular breed for those who enjoy participating in agility, obedience, flyball, tracking and search & rescue, as well as herding. You will find them also giving comfort to those in nursing homes and hospitals, and as seeing eye dogs, hearing ear dogs, and therapy dogs. Some have even served as sled dogs and hunting dogs.

The little blue dog has come a long way from settling the American West, and the Hartnagle family has played a large part in that history. Jeanne Joy Hartnagle-Taylor was raised with Australian Shepherds on her parent's ranch in Colorado. She has brought her vast knowledge and experience into this book, covering everything from finding the right Aussie for you and your family, Aussies and kids, grooming, nutrition, training, genetics, comparison of the ASCA and AKC standards, and other important topics.

A highly recommended book for those who are considering bringing an Aussie into their home. Those who already have Australian Shepherds in their life will find many informative chapters and tips.

Jeanne has revised the chapter on Miniature Australian Shepherds, with information on locating a responsible breeder, health and genetic issues, a bit of their history, and the stance of ASCA, AKC and USASA.

Jeanne is now writing a blog on the wonderful Australian Shepherd! Her latest blog: Australian Shepherds and Open Range Sheep Ranching. Leave your thoughts and comments at: http://allaboutaussies.wordpress.com/
